Students and teachers of Nabua Secondary School donated $500 worth of groceries and clothing to the Ministry of Provincial Development today.

Chairperson for the Social Committee of the school Ms Livi Soroaqali said the donation of $550 was given by the students and teachers.

“Teachers gave $10 each and we also collected clothing for the flood victims,” Ms Soroaqali said. “We bought groceries and other things from the money collected.”

“We want to instil the value of giving in the students and told them that they would be blessed if they give. The collections started straight after the flood,” Ms Soroaqali said.

The Permanent Secretary for Provincial Development, Mr Inia Seruiratu thanked the students and teachers for their effort and generosity.

“The gesture of giving generously to the communities in need by the students is really encouraging and will go a long way in assiting families affected by the devastating floods,” Mr Seruiratu said.

“All donations that Government receives is distributed within 24 hours upon receipt. This is one of our guiding principles in assisting flood victims.”

He said areas in great need are identified by the Commissioner Western through the Provincial Administrators and District Officers.

The Provincial Development is continuing its second wave of ration distribution to areas still in need of assistance.
